Pine Needle Basket
Here is one of my first attempts at using Florida pine needles. The handles are wrapped around black walnut slices. The stitching is done with waxed linen.
I have always loved baskets, and wanted to make them, however this was not a craft that was part of the usual repetoire of a girl of my age. About 15 years ago I finally found someone to teach me how to make a basket, and I was hooked. I started with bought tropical rattan splint, but rapidly became interested in harvesting materials from the woods of Muskoka and P.E.I. In fact, I love tramping through the woods and collecting as much as I do making the baskets. I have not made many baskets the last few years due to being too busy at work, but as now retired and my interest is rekindled. This blog will highlight baskets I have made and collected over the years, and hopefully will also contain some new baskets I will make soon.
I have many hobbies but one of my favourites is making and collecting dolls. I started making dolls about 20 years ago, but after a few years I became busy with other things, my family, my job, etc. After recently retiring I rekindled my interest in both making and collecting dolls. This blog will document my progress.
